This page is designed to be a resource and houses free, online tools to help continue learning for Kern County students during any school closure.
Continuity of learning is the continuation of education in the event of a prolonged school closure or student absence. These webpages have been curated to help families and educators transition from learning in a classroom setting to an online learning environment.
Day-by-day projects to keep kids reading, thinking, and growing. Even when schools are closed, you can keep the learning going with these special cross-curricular journeys. Every day includes four separate learning experiences, each built around a thrilling, meaningful story or video. Kids can do them on their own, with their families, or with their teachers. Just find your grade level and let the learning begin!
SDCOE Content Coordinators have developed a list of resources specific to subject matter to support distance learning. Please click the link above to view resources that have been curated for each discipline.
In an effort to ensure that students continue to excel in Math during the school closures, the nextgenmath.com team created thoughtful lessons that focus on the "Major" Common Core State Standards, providing 2-4 weeks of home instruction for K-8 students. These lessons are available to all school and district partners in need of home curriculum.
Each lesson provides 60 minutes of Math instruction strategically designed to prepare students to meet/exceed the standards in Math. The Home Lessons provide standard-specific independent learning inclusive of video tutorials and do not require a teacher or administrator to assign the learning activities. Real-time analytics are available to students, parents, teachers and admin as a way to monitor the learner's progress.
Here are the steps for your students to access the lessons:
Student logs into nextgenmath.com through Clever
Student completes a “Take the Challenge Home Lesson” that has 3-5 questions on a major standard
Upon submitting answers, the student will receive instant feedback on the Challenge Lesson.
After reviewing his or her results, the student can access a Conceptual Understand Instructional Video (The Videos Are Similar to the CGI Method of Teaching) for every problem that was marked incorrect
After watching the video, the student is provided practice on 3-5 problems that mirror the one they missed
The student then takes a 5-10 question on the standard
This process continues for each standard in the Target. After all standards are learned, a Target Assessment is provided.
